Dyslexia Awareness Month

En el mes de octubre la dislexia cobra protagonismo a nivel internacional y nacional por todas las iniciativas de sensibilización e información que se están celebrando en todos los países. Desde la Asociación de DISLECAN (Asociación de Dislexia Canarias y otras Dificultades de Aprendizaje), que está contribuyendo para impulsar la campaña europea de sensibilización y visibilidad de la dislexia, ‘Es dislexia, y la mayoría no lo sabe’, surgida desde la unión de asociaciones Plataforma Dislexia, nos ha llegado la invitación de sumarnos a la misma.

Es una iniciativa que desde todas las asociaciones que integran la Plataforma Dislexia están llevando a cabo en ciudades de todo el territorio de nuestro país durante todo el mes de octubre, para concienciar a la sociedad sobre su problemática y así dar visibilidad a las personas con esta dificultad específica de aprendizaje.

El objetivo es dar visibilidad a todas aquellas personas que tienen dificultad en la lectura sin saber que puede que tengan dislexia, y por otro lado dar a conocer su incidencia, ya que los estudios demuestran que el 10% de la población la tiene y la mayoría no lo sabe.

Debido a estas cifras, se están realizando un llamamiento a todas las instituciones y autoridades para programar en sus edificios y monumentos sistemas de iluminación exterior en color rojo, desde el día 1 de octubre hasta el 10 de octubre y/o durante todo el mes de octubre, siendo el 10 de octubre el día más fuerte de la campaña, así como dar difusión a los soportes que se adjuntan.

Desde el British School of Tenerife participamos en esta campaña, sumándonos a múltiples actividades que se están desarrollando, realizando nuestro alumnado actividades el día 10 de octubre para concienciar sobre las dificultades de la dislexia, pero también dar a conocer sus potencialidades como parte de la neurodiversidad.
