British Culture

As an International British School, we are proud to deliver the full British curriculum, ensuring that our students gain a deep understanding of the United Kingdom’s history, geography, society and core values.

A living part of school life

We actively promote British culture throughout every aspect of school life, from our academic programmes to our wider community ethos. This commitment not only shapes a rich educational experience, but also fosters a sense of respect, responsibility and global citizenship in every student.

Through cross-curricular activities, the school marks national celebrations such as the Coronation of His Majesty the King or the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

British Values in Practice

These values are developed through everyday experiences, participation and reflection across the school year.

Democracy

Children learn that everyone has a voice and that decisions are made by listening to the majority. We model this through:

  • Voting for school ambassadors at the start of the year.
  • Regular pupil voice activities.
  • Pupil questionnaires and feedback discussions.

These experiences help pupils understand fairness, participation and shared responsibility.

Rule of Law

Children explore how rules and laws keep people safe and help our school community work fairly. We reinforce this by:

  • Teaching the importance of following school rules to maintain a safe environment.
  • Discussing what to do if they see someone who is not following expectations.
  • Embedding safety topics within PSHEE, such as road safety, online safety and classroom behaviour routines.

This helps pupils understand consequences, responsibility and the role of rules in everyday life.

Individual Liberty

We help our pupils develop a strong sense of pride in who they are and confidence in the opinions, lifestyles and beliefs they hold.

Through Topic and PSHEE, especially as we build towards our annual International Day, children explore a wide range of cultures, traditions and faiths.

These experiences encourage pupils to be open-minded, celebrate diversity and reflect on how personal choices and identities shape our community. By giving children safe opportunities to express themselves, we strengthen their independence, self-esteem and respect for others.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance

We promote respect for ourselves, for others and for the world we live in.

Through our themed assemblies and our school pillars — Commitment, Kindness, Honesty, and Respect — we reinforce these values both inside and outside the classroom.

By consistently modelling and teaching these behaviours, we help pupils understand how their actions affect others and how respectful choices contribute to healthy and positive relationships.

This approach ensures our students grow into open-minded, empathetic and responsible individuals, well prepared for all aspects of life in an increasingly diverse world.

Helping Others

As a British school in Spain, we proudly promote British culture and support our wider community throughout the year. We celebrate key British events such as World Book Week, British Science Week, Jeans for Genes, Harvest Festival, Dyslexia Awareness Day, and Remembrance Day.

These celebrations help our students connect with British traditions while learning in an international environment.

We also teach our pupils the importance of helping others. Our school regularly collaborates with non-profit organisations and contributes to the community through food and clothing donations, craft sales, competitions, non-uniform days, and school discos.

  • Collections for families affected by the floods in Valencia.
  • A fundraising day to support those impacted by the volcanic eruption in La Palma.
  • A non-uniform day to help address the overpopulation of cats around our secondary site, raising funds for veterinary care.
Through these initiatives, we encourage students to show empathy, responsibility and kindness — key elements of typical British values such as community spirit, charity and respect.
