 Work experience (Years 11 + 12)

Some of our Year 11 and Year 12 students have spent the last week of term on Work Experience.

Leavers’Ball – Saturday 25th June

Last Saturday Year 13 students attended the Leavers Ball in Puerto de la Cruz. Students from Year 12 also went along to join in the celebrations. After the professional photo-shoot, parents were invited for cocktails in the La Gañanía gardens. Following speeches by President of the Board, Marcos Albarnoz and Maurita Simmonds, the Academic Director, students then went on to have a splendid meal in the restaurant. Dancing then continued into the early hours. We are so proud of our students and wish them every success for the future.

Geography Field Trip

On Wednesday 1st June to follow up the work done in class on Geography and Sport, Year 9 went on a Field trip to Los Realejos Olympic stadium. They walked there collecting data about traffic and communication links and completed an environmental survey on the stadium surroundings. They collected all this data to prove the hypothesis that the stadium was built on the best site. After they completed the Geography work they attempted many athletics activities.

Members from the Caja Canarias Tenerife Athletics Club, in the top category of Spanish athletics, welcomed our students. Érika Vera Amador,(National High Jump champion) and Irene García Echandi, one of our BST students who came 4th in the latest National Youth Championship in Spain, demonstrated their skills. Also present was Alberto Simó, champion in Triple-Jump and Long Jump, who is also a trainer at the club. Finally, we must mention Germán Millán Díaz who has an amazing track record of 30 National and International medals and was also Spanish Champion in Shot Putt in 2007. He is also vice-president and trainer at the club.

All these sportsmen and women demonstrated amazing skills and helped our students participate in different events of Shot Putt, Sprint, Hurdles, Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump.

Talk from AESLEME on the prevention of spinal injuries.

This month students in Year 12 and 13 have been visited by a representative of the Spanish Association of Spinal Cord Injury (AESLEME) for a talk about how to minimize the risk of injury of this type.

In addition to explaining how this type of injury can happen and to show its consequences and the protective measures that should be practised to avoid them, Juany Ramírez amazed us with her ability to excel and generously devote her time to help others to prevent spinal cord injury.

This is a time when many students are taking their driver's licence and soon the beach season will arrive and they must be careful with bathing in the water; so the talk was very useful for them.

School uniform

There are so many unclaimed items of school uniform! Please check that your son/daughter has not lost any items. Unfortunately, none of the items have names on them so it is very difficult to return them to students.

We wish you all a very happy Summer holiday and look forward to welcoming you back in September.

We hope you enjoyed reading this month´s newsletter!
